"President Shimon Peres granted clemency to former deputy minister of national infrastructure Naomi Blumenthal, who was convicted of bribery last year, Israel Radio reported on Monday.
Blumenthal's children appealed to then-acting president Dalia Itzik to pardon their mother, in the hope that she could avoid going to prison and instead be assigned additional community service. Itzik decided to leave the decision to Peres.
According to Army Radio, Peres's office refused to respond to the report that he had pardoned Blumenthal." Jerusalem Post
Don't get me wrong, I am not blood hungry... I don't wish people to rot in jail, I really don't, and actually, you know, I'm sure she wasn't the only one doing this, but she was stupid enough to get caught... But any way, what I just don't understand, I mean I understand but don't understand, why it is that if I will get caught speaking on my cell phone while driving, again... then I will be fined 1000 nis and get 6 points and God knows what else... and people in the government, well, they can lie, steal, rape and send people to war, and "its all good".
Granted what is bribing in comparison to serial raping, but still, if there is any significance to law and order, and the State in general, then this kind of behavior cannot exist, it just can't. Not the bribery by the way, but the lack of justice associated with the ironically so called Judicial system.
And why wont Pereses office respond to that, if you are going to do something, do it and explain yourself. Is it just me?
Maybe I misunderstand, maybe it is like starting a diet the way I see it, "I will just finish all the cheerios, oreos, doritoes, chips, burgers, pasta, lard and jelly snakes in the pantry and then, I swear, I will begin eating healthy... " (maybe they are just getting rid of all the current corruption and then begin a fresh start)
Maybe if you want to begin a diet, it should begin today... throw out the food or donate it to an enemy country. (Throw our corrupt politicians into Iran for example)
Any way, what the hell do I know... I just burst into tears while working and listening to the soundtrack from Hair...

I think there's something deeply wrong with public officials receiving public pardons from people they know. Even though clearly Peres and Blumenthal were not of the same party, etc., and clearly, in light of the light-hearted justice given to Katsav and Ramon, and the no-justice done to many of the upper-echelon scum, as well as considered her tragic personal situation, Blumenthal's punishment seems a bit harsh. But that's exactly the point isn't it..?
Again, under the circumstances, and considering she was not pardonned per se, just received a reduced sentence to community work so that she can still be with her children - I think it's the decent thing to do to someone you've worked with. And though I know Blumenthal is jsut a small fish in the sea of scum, I still can't help but feel your point. I don't know if everybody would have received this reduced sentence for a crime where the victims are more visible.
